PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT REGARDING FAKE E-SIGNATURE CASES
The judicial process regarding the fake e-signature cases that have recently come to the public's agenda was initiated following a complaint from a university and technical detections made by the Information Technologies and Communication Authority (BTK) National Cyber Incident Response Center (USOM).
Comprehensive examinations regarding fake e-signature (NES – Qualified Electronic Certificate) cases have been converted into a judicial investigation by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office since August 2024.
35 fake e-signatures detected by BTK were immediately cancelled, and in subsequent studies, 9 more fake e-signatures were cancelled. Security mechanisms against forgery have been strengthened, and stronger measures have been taken. To raise public awareness, an SMS with a title including the ESHS designation has been sent to all mobile numbers registered to the T.C. identity numbers of all NES owners.
The relevant SMS notified that secure electronic signatures produced on behalf of citizens can be queried via the "Qualified Electronic Certificate Inquiry" service on the E-Devlet portal at https://www.turkiye.gov.tr/btv-elektronik-imza-sertifikalari-sorgulama.
Our institution continues its resolute fight against digital forgery.
Respectfully announced to the public.
Presidency of the Information Technologies and Communication Authority
